This is the BMW X3! It received a mid-life facelift in late 2021, and Mat’s about to find out whether the M-Sport plug-in hybrid edition still stands the test of time against newer competitors such as the new Mercedes GLC & Genesis GV70. Well for starters, let’s check out the design. It’s relatively similar to the original X3, but there are a couple of design changes. Around the back, there are updated 3D-effect taillights, some real exhaust tips and an updated diffuser (which to be honest, is likely to have little to no effect). Around the side, there are bold creases across the doors and protruding side skirts to help with the sporty looks, and upfront there’s an updated bumper and a few new vents. Naturally, though, there’s a huge grille up front, which doesn’t do much for the looks. Step inside and there are only a few changes to the original X3. There’s an updated infotainment screen and full digital dials; otherwise, it’s all the same. That’s not such a bad thing, but when you consider newer BMWs come with a full-length, curved infotainment/dial screen, this already seems a bit outdated. Thankfully there are quality materials throughout most of the cabin, although if you reach a bit lower you may be met by some scratchy plastics. In this video, we’ve got our hands on the xDrive30e. It’s powered by a 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor, which combines to deliver 292hp and 300Nm. BMW claim it will hit 60mph in 6.1 seconds, and it comes in at a cost of around £56,000. The BMW X3 range starts from around £47,000. But should you still choose it over the competition? And if you’re in the market for a plug-in hybrid SUV, is it really the smart choice instead of the newer GLC? Stick with Mat and see for yourself! One of the earliest luxury crossovers to market was the BMW X3, which debuted in the summer of 2017. Therefore, BMW is working on a new replacement, the 2025 BMW Two unique platforms for the next-generation BMW X3 series are the main reasons for this excitement. The conventional X3 and plug-in hybrid (project codenamed G45) will use the CLAR platform. A variety of architectural styles allows for new details and state-of-the-art furnishings. This X3 from 2025, codenamed G45 within the company, does not have a split headlight design or a large kidney grille. One of the most striking features of the 2025 BMW X3 is its production headlights. The LEDs installed in these headlights provide the potential to provide a new design for daytime running lights. Inside are two light bars that are conceptually comparable to what you'd find on a modern BMW. Cheap makes and models can be identified by the location of the exhaust pipe behind the bumper. The door handles on this high-end crossover are flush with the body, just like on new BMWs. BMW doesn't appear to be jumping on the light bar bandwagon, instead opting to take a more methodical approach to redesigning its taillights. The BMW X3 was the very first premium vehicle in the compact SUV category and BMW certainly has a lot of expertise in this design. The Audi Q3 is the best selling premium compact utility but the X3 is always a favourite with enthusiasts thanks to solid handling and a willing engine. The base BMW X3 30i has a 2.0-Litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission with 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. There is an optional 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine available, called the M40i with 382hp, plus a new 30e plug-in with 288hp. The Audi Q5 and GLC are some of the main competitors to the BMW X3 SUV but also the Porsche Macan, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the Cadillac XT4 to name a few. 10 Reasons Why You Should AVOID The NEW 2023 BMW X3!! Are you considering buying the all new 2023 BMW X3? BMW changed the game when it introduced the X5 back in 1999, it being one of the first luxury SUVs. The X3 is now one of BMW's best-selling vehicles worldwide, providing a mix of sporty handling, upscale amenities, and good practicality. The current BMW X3 generation first went on sale in 2018 and received a refresh in 2022. No car is perfect and that includes the new X3, so we’re going to share with you Worse Fuel Economy Than Competitors Looking at the gas mileage, The 2023 X3 gets an okay gas mileage for a luxury compact SUV when equipped with the base engine, which many cars already have, so there’s nothing new. It gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel-drive models get 21 mpg in the city as well as 28 mpg on the highway. The gas mileage drops with the M-tuned engines: The M40i gets 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, and the M gets 15 mpg in the city as well as 20 mpg on the highway. Comparatively, the all new Toyota RAV4 Prime has significantly better gas mileage. The new Toyota RAV4 Prime gets 40 MPG in the city along with 36 MPG on the highway. The M40i Trim Ride Too Stiff For Daily Driving The X3 M40i is plenty quick and sporty, but for the full-bore M-car experience, choose the X3M. Its turbo 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine makes 473 hp as standard but gets cranked up to 503 with the addition of the Competition package. In its testing, the X3M Competition sprinted to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and through the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds at 117.3 mph, but at the same time, this is nothing new which other great cars are already doing. It is surely great, but the X3M Competition is too X-tra for daily driving duty. It rides even stiffer than the already stiff X3 M40i and is much less fuel efficient at 15/20 mpg, so experts didn’t really like the stiffness. Speed Control Problems The vehicle speed control issues are varied. And to state their frustration with the fact that speeds are only displayed in 10 mph increments. There is an option to spend $1,000 on a fully digital display, but car experts have said that they needed to be made aware of this when they bought the car. Also, the drivers consider an accurate speedometer a safety issue, and not an optional extra. Not So Comfortable The front seats of the new 2023 BMW X3 deliver the comfort and support needed for the long rides behind the wheel. A wide range of adjustments makes sure a good fit for almost everyone. And on bumpy roads, the test of the BMW X3 had a reasonably busy ride quality, which car experts partially attribute to it being outfitted with the optional Dynamic Handling package. Also, the solid level of control means you feel impacts, however they don't reverberate through the cabin or bounce your head around. Also, there's a little bit of wind noise from the driver's side window at freeway speeds. When the BMW X3 is idle, it's so silent that you'll want to check the tachometer to see if the engine is running. The engine noise is pronounced under moderate to hard acceleration, and sounded a bit unpleasant for many. Interior Lacks The ‘Wow-Factor’ Both the new 2023 BMW X3 as well as the 2023 BMW X5 feature high-end cabin materials, but there's a noticeable difference in the ambience. The BMW X3 has an all-business vibe that could be more elegant to some consumers. In contrast, the BMW X5 has a more striking design that you might find more in keeping with its pricier asking price. The headroom is quite the same in the two BMW crossover SUVs, but if you need legroom, you'll do better with the 2023 X5. But, the X5 has significantly more shoulder and hip room for adults riding in the back. In addition, buyers can equip the 2023 BMW X5 with massaging front seats. The 2023 BMW X3 has 28.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats. Folding the seats provides 62.7 cubic feet. These are good numbers for a compact premium SUV, and you might prefer the X3's conventional overhead liftgate. The X5 continues to use a clamshell-style, split rear tailgate. The split tailgate is convenient when you need to load a few groceries, but you might need help to reach items near the second-row seat backs when the lower portion of the gate is down. The BMW faces stiff competition in the form of the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Jaguar F-Pace, Volvo XC60, Lexus NX and most recently the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. But the X3 promises a wide scope of talents, and as we found out on the shoot, it seems have a bit of an identity crisis going on... In this video we drive the powerful diesel variant, the xDrive30d. È stata tra le prime ad affacciarsi nel segmento dei SUV premium di dimensioni medie e ora la BMW X3, giunta alla sua terza generazione, si aggiorna quanto basta per confermarsi uno dei punti di riferimento della categoria. Modifiche tutto sommato lievi per estetica e dotazioni, ma quando un prodotto nasce vincente non c'è bisogno di stravolgerlo per mantenerlo al passo coi tempi. Tutto perfetto, dunque? Non proprio, come vi diciamo nel nostro #PerchéComprarla. Il listino è piuttosto ricco per quanto riguarda le motorizzazioni. Siamo poco al di sotto dei 60.000 euro per la sDrive18d da 150 CV, mild hybrid a 48 volt anche lei così come tutta la gamma X3, eccezion fatta per la plug-in, che invece parte da 70.000 euro. La 20d di questa prova parte da 62.000 euro, ma vanno aggiunti anche i 3.800 euro circa per l’allestimento M Sport. La 30d parte da 70.000 euro, la M40d da 349 CV sta poco al di sotto degli 80.000 euro. Per quanto riguarda le alternative, di SUV medi premium ce ne sono tanti e interessanti. Ovviamente l’Audi Q5 e la Mercedes GLC, che nel 2023 è completamente nuova, o ancora la Porsche Macan. Dall’Inghilterra arriva la Jaguar F-Pace, dal giappone la Lexus NX, che è l’unica ad offrire una versione full hybrid.
