Windows 10 How to Adjust Virtual Memory. Virtual memory for your computer is hard drive space used by Windows when it fills up the physical RAM. Let’s say you have a computer that has 1 GB of RAM and you’re running several applications at once that might need a total of 1.5 GB of memory. Windows will fill up the 1 GB and then uses the free space on the hard drive to store the rest. This is called the paging file or virtual memory and Windows will increase and decrease the size of this file as needed. Writing to disk takes much longer than writing to physical RAM, so when Windows uses the paging file, computer performance degrades. That’s why you’ll always hear people asking if you have enough RAM because the more RAM you have, the better your computers’ performance will be. However, we can tweak the virtual memory settings so that the paging file does not get fragmented and so that Windows does not have to grow or shrink the size of the paging file, both of which will cause the computer to slow down, especially on older machines. By default, Windows uses the boot partition (the partition that contains your operating system files) and it is recommended to set the size of the paging file to 1.5 times the amount of RAM that you have. This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).
Swapping in operating system: Main memory to Second memory & vice versa
When installing Ubuntu, a swap file is created. The swap file is usually about 2 GB, though sometimes it can be larger. This swap file can do the trick for most Ubuntu users these days, as most modern PCs have a lot of performance and RAM. Read more: 🤍

In this video, I will give a brief overview of swap space management. We will answer questions like how large should we make our swap space, where should we place it and what it actually "looks" like. This video was made as a part of the CSCE 311 Operating System Course at the University of South Carolina in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Big thanks to CleanMyMac for sponsoring this video and allowing me to spend 3 days straight on this: 🤍 (use code CREATED10 for 10% off). A lot of people have reported excessive SSD usage on their M1 Macs (and even some older Intel Macs running Big Sur). Could this be related to the swap memory issues we've been hearing about? In this video I do some testing on some of the most popular browsers, including Firefox, Brave, Safari, Chrome, and Edge. I find that a lot of these browsers actually write large cache files directly to the internal SSD instead of keeping it mainly in system RAM. Over time, this MAY cause early degradation of your internal SSD. However, this is very unlikely as I explain further in the video. 🌐 View the article on the Created Tech website: 🤍 My coverage on the M1 Mac SSD Swap Memory Issue: 🤍 🔥 EXCLUSIVE YOUTUBE VIEWER DEALS: ⮕ 💰 Awesome M1 Mac deals: 🤍 ⮕ 🔒 Best Mac VPN to protect your online activity: 🤍 ⮕ 🔖 Use Windows on your Mac via Parallels (10% off): 🤍 ⌨️ MAC ACCESSORIES I USE: ⮕ Aluminum Laptop Stand: 🤍 ⮕ Dell U2720Q 4K Monitor: 🤍 ⮕ Leather Desk Mat: 🤍 ⮕ Anker USB-C Hub: 🤍 ⮕ Samsung T5 Portable SSD: 🤍 ⮕ CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 Dock: 🤍 ⚡ SOCIAL MEDIA + OTHER LINKS: 🌐 Website: 🤍 🐦 Twitter: 🤍 📷 Instagram: 🤍 📟 Equipment and desk setups: 🤍 00:00 Introduction 00:40 Advertisement 01:17 The Testing Process 02:24 Swap/RAM Usage 02:43 Why Does So Much Data Get Written To Your SSD When Watching Videos? 05:11 The Second Test 06:19 What Should You Do? #m1macs #m1macswapmemory #createdtech Disclaimer: Some of the above links are affiliate links, and I may receive a small commission (at no additional cost to you) if you make a purchase. In this video, I attempt to explain the SWAP memory issue on the M1 MacBooks and tell you about my experience on the Base Model of MacBook Pro.
Canvas: Isolated and Adaptive Swapping for Multi-Applications on Remote Memory Chenxi Wang, Yifan Qiao, Haoran Ma, and Shi Liu, UCLA; Yiying Zhang, UCSD; Wenguang Chen, Tsinghua University; Ravi Netravali, Princeton University; Miryung Kim and Guoqing Harry Xu, UCLA Remote memory techniques for datacenter applications have recently gained a great deal of popularity. Existing remote memory techniques focus on the efficiency of a single application setting only. However, when multiple applications co-run on a remote-memory system, significant interference could occur, resulting in unexpected slowdowns even if the same amounts of physical resources are granted to each application. This slowdown stems from massive sharing in applications' swap data paths. Canvas is a redesigned swap system that fully isolates swap paths for remote-memory applications. Canvas allows each application to possess its dedicated swap partition, swap cache, prefetcher, and RDMA bandwidth. Swap isolation lays a foundation for adaptive optimization techniques based on each application's own access patterns and needs. We develop three such techniques: (1) adaptive swap entry allocation, (2) semantics-aware prefetching, and (3) two-dimensional RDMA scheduling. A thorough evaluation with a set of widely-deployed applications demonstrates that Canvas minimizes performance variation and dramatically reduces performance degradation. One of the hardest things for new programmers to learn is pointers. Whether its single use pointers, pointers to other pointers, pointers to structures, something about the concept drives new programmers crazy. The C programming languages is recognized as one of the most difficult programming languages to learn. The reason for this is the limitless power you have over memory management, which comes from pointers. In this video, I show you what a pointer is, as it applies to low level memory access. Also, we talk about pointer syntax in C and how you can better understand the pointer syntax by converting it to English. In this video, I will guide you to swpa partition in Linux Redhat 9.2 version. Here I have explained the what is swap in linux and benefit of swap All the said steps are explained in the video with some other required additional steps. Swap partitions are used as virtual memory when the system runs out of physical memory. Swap is a space on a disk that is used when the amount of physical RAM memory is full. “Hello All, We welcome you online/offline students to our institute and provide you the new curriculum details for your best studies. PARTITIONING There are many options for partitioning drive space in Linux. Each has its own advantages. Here are just a few examples: Default PART FS MOUNT SIZE sda1 ext4 / Drive space minus swap sda5 swap none RAM size plus 100 MB Advanced PART FS MOUNT SIZE sda1 ext4 / 15 to 32 GB sda2 swap none RAM size plus 100 MB sda3 ext4 /home Remaining drive space My scheme for boasting VM performance sda1 ext4 / 32 GB sda2 swap none 8 GB sda3 ext4 /home 600 GB sda4 xfs /vm 300 GB SWAP PARTITIONS AND FILES Swap space provides memory for the kernel to use at times when physical RAM is running out. Swap can be set aside in its own partition or it can be in a swap file within a file system. Some programs use swap space independently of the kernel. Swap is also used to dump the contents of RAM when there is a hard crash. There must be a separate swap partition that is slightly larger than the total system RAM space in order to use hibernation. To create a swapfile: First cd into / then run these commands as root; dd if=/dev/zero of=swapfile-name bs=1024k count=MB-num mkswap swapfile-name swapon swapfile-name To mount the swap file at boot time add this line to /etc/fstab: /swapfile-name none swap sw 0 0 EXT4 AND XFS FILE FRAGMENTATION Do you need to defrag your drives? Probably not. SSD should NEVER be dfragged. You may want to check fragmentation status with: sudo e4defrag -c path-name or device name Most likely, the fragmentation score will be 0. Those with very large files or drives that are running at more then 75 per cent capacity may want to run a defrag. sudo e4defrag path-name or device name Do not expect a big performance boost, though. Ext4 and XFS both run faster even with fragmented files. Check out 🤍 for more about Linux.

The human brain is probably the most mysterious organ in our body. Scientists keep learning new facts about its work, but it still hides lots of secrets. There are a few simple ways to boost your intellect and improve your brain power, and they will surely surprise you! TIMESTAMPS Chronic lack of sleep worsens memory 0:40 Prolonged stress destroys the brain 1:07 Love and hate have a lot in common 1:29 The brain is sensitive to dehydration 1:53 Pregnancy changes the brain’s structure 2:13 The abundance of sugar reduces the ability to learn 2:39 Romantic love and maternal feelings are very similar 3:25 Painting improves the work of the brain 3:58 Reading trains the brain 4:33 SUMMARY - During a full night’s sleep, brain cells remove toxic compounds dangerous to our brain. - A decrease in memory, in the ability to learn, in self-control — these are the consequences that chronic stress is fraught with. - British scientists found out that love and hate originate in similar brain areas. - Our brain is almost 80% water. - Scientists proved that pregnancy reduces the amount of gray matter in the brain areas responsible for social cognition and the ability to understand other people. - The abundance of fructose in the diet slows down the brain and reduces its ability to learn, remember information, and concentrate. - According to brain activity, romantic relationships and maternal feelings are very similar, but there are differences as well. - A study showed that painting and contemplation of works of art improve the interaction between brain areas while slowing its aging. - Oxford scientists proved that the process of reading trains the cognitive abilities of the brain. It also activates areas that aren’t used at other times. Don’t forget to hit the like button below the video and click subscribe to join the Bright Side of life! USENIX ATC '22 - ZNSwap: un-Block your Swap Shai Bergman, Technion; Niklas Cassel and Matias Bjørling, Western Digital; Mark Silberstein, Technion We introduce ZNSwap, a novel swap subsystem optimized for the recent Zoned Namespace (ZNS) SSDs. ZNSwap leverages ZNS's explicit control over data management on the drive and introduces a space-efficient host-side Garbage Collector (GC) for swap storage co-designed with the OS swap logic. ZNSwap enables cross-layer optimizations, such as direct access to the in-kernel swap usage statistics by the GC to enable fine-grain swap storage management, and correct accounting of the GC bandwidth usage in the OS resource isolation mechanisms to improve performance isolation in multi-tenant environments. We evaluate ZNSwap using standard Linux swap benchmarks and two production key-value stores. ZNSwap shows significant performance benefits over the Linux swap on traditional SSDs, such as stable throughput for different memory access patterns, and 10 times lower 99th percentile latency and 5 times higher throughput for memcached key-value store under realistic usage scenarios. There are a lot of misleading videos on the topic of editing and M1 Macs. In this video I wanted to shed some light on the capabilities and limitations of editing different types of footage in different editing programs on the M1 platform. Apple silicon has been proven to be quite powerful, but it doesn't mean it's the best fit for every person. In this video I delve into some 4K timelines with footage from a Sony A7III mirrorless camera along with adding some color correction, LUTs, and fusion or 3D effects. WE also take a look at Adobe Premiere Pro. I also edit footage in DaVinci Resolve using 6K BRAW footage from my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. Lastly, we take a look at some 8K R3D RAW footage and see if the M1 can handle it. Side note - I also spend some time talking about how much RAM you need and also the swap memory usage.
